National Police Week honors law enforcement across the country

Police and crime commissioner John Campion is supporting the memorial, which will honour the sacrifice of those who were killed in the line of duty.

Bagpipes sounded, officers saluted and guns fired in salute as about 50 fallen Southern Nevada law enforcement officers dating back as far as 1866 were honored Thursday night in the northeast valley.

"It's a way for us to continue the memorial in honoring those fallen officers", Stroud said. "These people are on the front line and they deserve our appreciation". "During National Law Enforcement Week, please take the time to say thank you to the fearless men and women working hard across this nation, each and every day, to bring safety and security to your communities". Parque, a detective with the North Las Vegas Police Department, was killed while on duty when a motorist traveling the wrong way slammed into his auto earlier this year.

Seeing themselves as a big family, numerous officers in attendance were hoping to provide that extra comfort for the families of the fallen.

Throughout the week, the department also has honored the five High Point officers who died in the line of duty - Officer James Wicher on September 15, 1913; Officer Carey Reaves on June 10, 1925; Officer Fred Claywell on June 18, 1925; Capt. Jerome Morris on September 16, 1928 and Officer Shelia Twyman on December 23, 2001.
