And now Australian star Cate Blanchett has been tipped to play Lucille in an authorised biopic about the American actress.

The tale behind the relationship of one of television history's most iconic couples, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, has been trying to make its way to the big screen several years now, but, unfortunately, hasn't had much luck in terms of finding producers and distributors. Ball and Arnaz were married for 20 years and created their own studio, Desilu, to produce their wildly successful sitcom I Love Lucy, as well as other popular series like Star Trek.

The retailer's film division, Amazon Studios, has acquired the rights to Lucy and Desi, a new film from Oscar-winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network). The couple met when Lucy was 28 and Desi was 23 while they were both working on set of the 1940 film Too Many Girls. She's also well-known for roles in "Lord of the Rings", "Thor: Ragnarok", and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button".

Here's Lucy also starred the then-teenaged Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr.

Blanchett's next film, 'Thor: "Ragnarok" sees the two-time Academy Award victor in a very new role, as Hela the goddess of death. The project has always been of interest, not least of all because in addition to its Oscar winning star, it also has a screenplay by another Oscar victor, Aaron Sorkin of The Social Network, Moneyball, and Steve Jobs fame.

There are discussions underway as to who will portray the important role of Arnaz, with Deadline adding Javier Bardem's name into the mix as a potential candidate.
