According to the minister, it is "the sixth time" that soldiers of Operation Sentinel, which has stationed 7,000 soldiers permanently on the national territory since the attacks in 2015, have been targeted. The driver is on the run.

French police arrested a man Wednesday in the search for a driver who slammed his BMW into soldiers in a Paris suburb Wednesday, injuring six of them in what appeared to be a carefully timed ambush before speeding away, officials said.

A manhunt has been launched after a vehicle ploughed into anti-terror soldiers in the northwestern suburbs of Paris on Wednesday morning, injuring six, according to The Local.

The attacked occurred at about 8 am during the changeover of soldiers from the 35th Infantry Regiment stationed at Place de Verdun, not far from the town hall in Levallois-Perret. Police have closed off the roads.

The incident, described by police as deliberate, "does nothing to dent soldiers' determination to work for the security of the French people", Parly said in a statement.

She said: "This morning at 7.56 a.m., a vehicle that had visibly prepositioned itself drove, on objective, toward around 10 soldiers from Opération Sentinelle at the exit of the barracks that were built for them two years ago by the municipality".

French police officers work near the scene where French soldiers were hit and injured by a vehicle in the western Paris suburb of Levallois-Perret near Paris, France, on August 9, 2017.

The street is normally guarded by posts that are removed when vehicles move in and out, so the driver must have known exactly when to strike, Veillant said.

He told investigators he wanted to kill a soldier, reports said.

Balkany told The Guardian that he believed that the act was done with intent and "deliberate aggression". "It all happened very quickly".

Collomb said Wednesday's auto attack marks the sixth time soldiers with the Sentinelle operation have been targeted.

Six soldiers were injured in the attack.

The vehicle involved sped off after the incident, sparking Paris prosecutors' office anti-terrorism unit to launch a probe into "attempted killings.in relation to a terrorist undertaking".

In November 2015, 130 people were killed across the French capital as a Belgium-based terror cell launched attacks across the city.

In June 6, a 40-year-old Algerian doctorate student who had pledged allegiance to Daesh attacked a policeman with a hammer outside Notre Dame Cathedral.
