An 11-year-old girl attending a sleepover in the Bronx was severely burned when an older girl poured boiling water on her face Monday morning.

Eleven-year-old Jamoneisha Merritt, who goes by Jamone, is in serious but stable condition with burns on her face, chest, shoulders and back.

Jamoneisha's family says that they have not yet shown the girl the severity of her injuries, but that she is in good spirits, per NBC News 4, a local news channel in NY.

The victim is now receiving treatment at Harlem Hospital for her injuries.

The 12-year-old was arrested and police charged her with assault.

"S$3 he told her if she goes to sleep, they were going to do something to her", Richardson told the station.

According to Panton, the girl she knew as Jamoni was a friend of her daughter Aniya and basically moved into their apartment about a month ago.

It's unclear how long Jamoneisha will be in the hospital or what her prognosis is.

'I'm going to cut your face, you f-ing b--!' the outraged mother screamed at Panton. "My daughter was sleeping and Jamoni poured cold water on Aniya".

"I think the only reason why she in good spirits is because she doesn't actually see the damage done to her". Ebony Merritt screamed at Panton. "She thought they was her friends", Ebony Merritt told NY1 News.

Her mother told NY1 that her daughter is in a lot of pain, not only physical pain, but emotional pain too. "I don't want her to see me cry".

Some outlets have linked the prank to the "Hot Water Challenge", a social media trend involving people subjecting themselves and others to extremely hot water. At this point, none of the other children are facing charges.

Eight-year-old Ki'ari Pope of Florida died after apparently taking part in what may have been a variation on the craze by drinking boiling water as part of a dare with another child.

"Watch what your kids are doing on the internet", he added.
