Jordan Matthews Traded to the Bills

With two trades on Friday, the Bills altered the depth charts of three teams and caused all sorts of movement in our fantasy football wide receiver rankings.

Buffalo also traded cornerback Ronald Darby to the Philadelphia Eagles for wide receiver Jordan Matthews and a 2018 third-round pick.

The Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams have completed a trade that sends wide receiver Sammy Watkins to Southern California. Sam, was the first openly gay player to ever be drafted in the NFL. In this league, you're not going to be able to get anything unless you give something.

Darby, a native of Oxon Hill, MD, played three seasons for the Seminoles, appearing in 42 career games and totaling 79 tackles (57 solo), 16 pass breakups, 2 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles and 1 fumble recovery. However, his best single-season effort came in 2015 despite missing three regular-season matchups. Of course, even a down year for Matthews was 73 receptions, 804 yards and 3 touchdowns, so he'll likely continue to produce regardless. The counter would be that Matthews is a slot receiver - not an exceptionally explosive one relative to some others out there - and paying big money for a player who might end up being the team's third receiving option doesn't make sense, especially if they want to extend Alshon Jeffery beyond this year. Roseman talked about his cornerback group now, and how young it is with Sidney Jones 21, Darby, Jalen Mills and Rasul Douglas 23, and C.J. Smith 24.

Watkins was already a hard player to evaluate after a disappointing, injury-plagued 2016.

According to WKBW Sports Director Joe Buscaglia, both Matthews and Gains have cap hits under $2 million, and both their contracts expire after this year. It never gets any easier in this business because however good he is as a player, he's a better person. But playing devil's advocate, let's say they throw the ball 520 times and he gets a 20 percent target share, we're looking at 104 targets. I'll tell you right now, he ran away from people at the Senior Bowl. But by the same token, we weren't picking up the phone and calling teams on Jordan because of his value to our team.
