Clinton is now on a book tour for What Happened, her memoir from the presidential campaign that will be released Tuesday.

After largely staying out of the spotlight for nearly a year, Hillary Clinton is back to talk about the 2016 election and how she dealt with a loss that left her "gobsmacked".

"I'm a former First Lady, and former presidents and First Ladies show up". Clinton might have benefited by speaking to Pauley while standing in a pouring rain and wearing a slicker.

But if Hillary had really wanted to avoid the threat of millions of white people voting, she could have run for office in Communist China, Communist Cuba or Zimbabwe. And the interview proved that when it comes to the five stages of grief, she hasn't gotten past anger.

She didn't go into detail about what that future involvement might address.

Asked if she offended some people with the comment, Clinton said, "I don't buy that". I did some yoga. "But then, midnight, I decided, 'well - you know, looks like it's not going to work'". You could imagine a anxious Bill desperately trying not to make any noise while moving about the house and occasionally offering foot massages.

"It still is very painful", she said. It also delves into an accounting of the investigations and media scrutiny she faced during the 2016 campaign.

Clinton expressed some regrets, including what she described as a failure to appeal to the outrage of the American worker.

She said she "had not drafted a concession speech".

"I felt a huge sense of abandonment, loss of feelings, of direction and of sadness", she entrusted to him and to heal she has wandered far into the woods, has stowed away in the cupboards, and "drank a good amount of Chardonnay".

"And then his speech, which was a cry from the white nationalist gut..." she added with visible disgust.

"There were plenty of people hoping that I, too, would just disappear", Clinton writes. Mrs. Clinton insisted that the line was taken out of context, but said Mr. Obama had fed the narrative of Democratic hostility toward coal miners by announcing a plan that set state-by-state targets for carbon emissions reductions, and a framework for meeting them, at the White House, next to the head of the Environmental Protection Agency.

"Yeah, millions of white people", Clinton agreed.

She spoke about how hard it was to attend Trump's Inauguration, as she was the former first lady with former President Bill Clinton.

The other basket was filled with "friends" who felt the government and the economy had let them down, Clinton explained, encouraging her supporters to bring those Trump supporters over to her side.

But the candidate also took some share of the blame.

Hillary Clinton says her career "as an active politician" is over. I said it before, I'll say it again: It was my responsibility.

"A lot of people didn't want to hear my plans". I should have done a better job of demonstrating...

Clinton pulled no punches.

"Sometimes I would write a couple of pages and would literally have to lie down because it was so hard", she said. I thought his behavior, as we saw on the Access Hollywood tape, was deplorable. But there was one person who could help her cope: Bill.

"They were already energized", she told Pauley. "I don't buy that".

'But I don't think it was determinative, ' Clinton argued.

The Women's March in January was organized in response to the election of Mr. Trump, and many marchers were Hillary supporters.

"In my debate prep we practiced this", she told Pauley.

She added that she might have miscalculated in her reaction.

'I was godsmacked, wiped out, ' she said.
