Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has suggested playmaker Philippe Coutinho will play some part against Sevilla on Wednesday (13 September) and believes he was right to exclude the Brazilian from the side that lost 5-0 to Manchester City on Saturday. Blame me for this, really no problem, but it was a decision for the season.

Coutinho could be involved when Liverpool host Sevilla in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

As forward Sadio Mane is serving a domestic three-match ban following a nasty clash with Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson, ample room in Liverpool's midfield has since been vacated for Coutinho's return. "He came back from a long flight, after two substitute appearances and three weeks without training", Klopp said in his pre-Sevilla press conference. "He's been at the club for almost two years and he's been trying to build a team in the way he was doing in Germany".

'I think he is doing a good job.

Coutinho missed Liverpool's start to the season with a back problem but managed to appear for Brazil during the global break.

The Andalucian side face Liverpool for the first time since defeating the Premier League side 3-1 in the Europa League final.

Klopp has been at Liverpool for nearly two years, and reached the Capital One Cup final in 2016, but lost on penalties to Manchester City. With the Champions League back at Anfield, it's very important to keep those quality players.

"If you look at the players and some of their performances you can say why not have a go at the Champions League", he added. We should give him credit for that. With Phil, we didn't always create more chances against City in the past.
