It was an entertaining game but a frustrating result for Manchester United as the Reds were held to a 2-2 draw by Stoke City on Saturday. It was perfectly understandable, though part of me would have liked to see more of the Mata-Henrikh Mkhitaryan-Paul Pogba creative axis.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting was the headline star of Stoke's performance, scoring twice in a 2-2 draw, but it's Zouma who receives recognition from Gazzetta dello Sport.

Poor old Hughes. Every man and his dog has refused to shake his hand.

When Mourinho's comments were put to Mark Hughes, Stoke's manager said: "What do you think?" It's early, they're top of the table and that's what ought to matter.

The pair previously exchanged words during the second half at the bet365 Stadium when Mourinho appeared to enter Hughes' technical area, before tempers appeared to be calmed.

"Sometimes, because they're not used to having to take negative results, sometimes they react in the wrong way". He said, "I want to be polite with you and I prefer not to answer because your question if really a... a bad question".

"In fairness, I've got history with non-handshakes so maybe it's me!"

Mourinho brushed aside the handshake issue in his post-match press conference. "We didn't allow them as much space and everything I asked the guys to do, they fulfilled".

"Goodness knows, we had too many free-kicks against us, but that wasn't because we're a physical team, it was because the referee misinterpreted too many things in my view".

In typical fashion, however, the "Special One" claimed that Stoke were focused on securing a draw rather than victory themselves.

Although the result saw United's ideal start to 2017-18 ended, Mourinho says that optimism remains around Old Trafford.
