De facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi has faced widespread criticism for her stance on the Rohingya.

Malaysia will send a humanitarian mission to help refugees seeking shelter at the Bangladesh-Myanmar border, Prime Minister Najib Razak said. "She must be held accountable and tried", said party spokesman KM Atiqur Rahman.

"Suu Kyi break your silence", "Burma killing, worlds most silent genocide, ' 'Stop Brutal killing of Rohingyas" were few of the slogans written on the placard people carried during the protest.

Bangladesh's foreign minister said today that genocide was being waged in Myanmar's violence- racked Rakhine state, triggering an exodus of almost 3,00,000 Muslim Rohingya to his country.

According to recent figures, Bangladesh has taken in nearly 300,000 of the displaced Rohingyas.

In the past, some Muslims from Myanmar had entered Manipur illegally and they are now in prison.

He told the diplomats that some 3,00,000 Rohingya had fled to Bangladesh in the past two weeks, taking the total number of such refugees in the country to over 7,00,000.

Abu Bakkar, a Rohingya refugee from Dragar Dailpara in Rakhine state, said Myanmar soldiers killed his four sons when an army unit raided their village on September 1. "Should all people be killed?"

An estimated 270,000 Rohingya refugees have crossed into Bangladesh's southeastern region since August 25, United Nations officials said Friday in releasing updated estimates that reflected a leap of more than 100,000 from the day before.

Bangladeshi officials and Amnesty researchers believe new explosives have been recently planted, including one that the rights group said blew off a Bangladeshi farmer's leg and another that wounded a Rohingya man. There are an estimated 40,000 Rohingya Muslim refugees in India; spread across Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan and Delhi.

Emine Erdogan visited the Kutupalang Rohingya camp and adjacent makeshift refugee shelters at Ukhia upazila of Cox's Bazar yesterday afternoon, hours after her arrived in Dhaka.

Hatred towards the Rohingya is profound, particularly among Myanmar's Bamar majority, making speaking up for them a potentially politically suicidal move.

Attaullah Faizani, an organizer of the demonstration, told Anadolu Agency on the occasion that the goal of protest is to express solidarity with the Muslims in need.

Thailand has also said it was preparing to receive people fleeing the fighting in Myanmar.

Among its recommendations was an end to the state-sanctioned persecution of the Rohingya and a path to citizenship for them, as well as an investment drive to alleviate poverty among both Muslims and Buddhists in Rakhine.
