KU tied for 115th overall among public and private universities in the rankings, up three places from last year's rankings.

Some critics of the rankings say the U.S. News & World Report formula favors the wealthiest and most exclusive schools, and do not adequately reflect the diversity of students served or the quality of teaching, The Washington Post reported.

Texas A&M also ranks No. 8 nationally in a Money magazine study titled Best Colleges For Big Paychecks, showing Texas A&M graduates are among the nation's earning leaders soon after they enter the job market. In New Jersey, TCNJ ranked 1st among public colleges and universities, and 2nd overall. The north region includes Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland.

The university's overall rise in the rankings, to a 53rd place tie among public universities, follows increased graduation rates in recent years, according to KU's news release. Such universities often offer free or discounted tuition to students considered residents of the state.

"I am gratified that these national rankings recognize the value of an Aggie education".

Why JUST ranks top

The U.S. News rankings methodology focuses on academic excellence, with schools evaluated on hundreds of data points and up to 15 measures of academic quality. UMPI came in at #3, its highest showing on this list to date. "Congratulations to each of the SUNY campuses recognized by the 2018 U.S. News and World Report rankings". "As we continue to emphasize and value the University's tremendous undergraduate experience, we also are committed to elevating our academic profile and creating a strategic pathway to become a tier-one Christian research university for the benefit of our students, faculty, staff and alumni".

As per the WION report, based on employability rankings, five out of the ten universities are US-based.

The College of Engineering is ranked 34th among public universities with doctoral programs, up from 41st a year ago. In other rankings, looking at four-year graduation rate, TCNJ has the fifth highest-percentage among all public colleges and universities.

In addition, the AFA tied for second in High School Counselors Top College Picks, with the United States Military Academy and Williams College.
