Earlier in the day, breaking protocol, Modi personally received Abe at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International airport with a warm hug.

Japanese PM accorded ceremonial reception upon his arrival at Ahmedabad airport. In the evening both the prime ministers will pay a visit to iconic Sidi Saiyyed Mosque present at the eastern part of the city. This will be the fourth annual summit between Modi and Abe, who will review the progress in Indo-Japanese cooperation under the Special Strategic and Global Partnership.

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe look forward to laying the foundation stone for the first-ever bullet train in India, China on Wednesday said it was "pleased to see" the development and infrastructure cooperation between the two countries. Japan is a pioneer in high-speed rail transport - with its Shinkansen bullet train ranked among the fastest in the world.

Abe is also seeking the adoption of Japanese technology by India's other railway systems. One is a high-speed train, which will stop at all the ten stations on the proposed high-speed corridor between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. The two leaders will also visit Dandi Kutir, the museum dedicated to Gandhi. An India Japan Business Plenary is scheduled the same day. It was in 2006 that India and Japan agreed to hold annual summits between the prime ministers of the two countries.

Before two years, soon after assuming office Prime Minister Narendra Modi made his first bilateral visit to Japan, India's immediate neighborhood.

The two countries are expected to sign multiple economic deals and launch projects, including a Suzuki auto manufacturing plant at Hansalpur, about 170 km from Ahmedabad, through remote control.

The bullet train will initially have 10 cars and a capacity to accommodate 750 people, which will be increased to 16 cars with a capacity to accommodate 1,200 passengers later. The two leaders will participate in a road show that would start from the Ahmedabad airport and culminate at the Sabarmati Ashram.

Abe and Trump are scheduled to meet in mid-September during the prime minister's visit to NY, where they will hammer out details of the president's November visit.

Following the presentation both the PM's will be having dinner hosted by the Agashiye restaurant located near the mosque.
