Volkswagen Announce Ambitions to Create Electric Versions of their Entire Portfolio

Experience 360 degrees of Magna at IAA Frankfurt Frankfurt Motor Show 2017 – Five to look out for

This week at the Frankfurt motor show we got a glimpse into this new key model, with the ID Crozz concept having just made its global premiere.

Automakers are spending heavily to develop and improve electric cars to meet increasingly tough government regulations limiting air pollution. Dieter Zetsche, his counterpart at Daimler AG, said he regrets that consumers have lost trust in diesel.

The scandal proved to be the strategic shift driver for the company, but this has put VW on a tighter space as they neglect the electric auto race while others have been rampaging with their developments and advances. Mueller said the company would await firm commitments before reacting. Tesla has started to roll out the $35,000 Model 3 to broaden its appeal and stem billions of dollars in losses.

What do you think of the rise of electric vehicles? By 2025, Volkswagen plans to offer 23 all-electric models. The automaker has promised however, that these engines will deliver great performance while meeting emissions standards.

The company will spend £18 bn pounds on new electric auto platforms, charging infrastructure and battery technology. This announcement has come as part what is being called the largest electromobility campaign in the automotive industry.

"We have not decided if we will build it in the USA", he said.

Dr. Herbert Diess, who heads the VW brand worldwide, said at its Chattanooga assembly plant two weeks ago that the industry is "really dramatically changing" because of electric drivetrains, more internet connectivity and autonomous driving.

The automaker in Frankfurt is giving the public its first glimpse of the coming overhaul of the product portfolio.

The company's Chief Executive Officer Matthias Mueller outlined the plans, the manufacturer's most significant move yet into the electric vehicle space, on the eve of the Frankfurt auto show.

The three German luxury carmakers were the home team and showed it with large display areas.

Volkswagen said its new investments would set the scene for "e-mobility's final breakthrough".

Around $20 billion will be spent on developing electric vehicles which is double the budget originally proposed by VW earlier this year. "'Business as usual' is no longer enough".
