Uganda has remained the top ranked football team in Africa's eastern region in the latest rankings released by the sports' world governing body in Zurich, Switzerland on Thursday.

Nevertheless, Nigeria moved downwards on the grading and are now fifth in Africa, according to Federation Internationale de Football Association.

The global soccer body said that the 32 teams would be divided into four pots with the seven top-ranked teams plus hosts Russian Federation in pot one, the next eight-ranked teams in pot two and so on. However, their last two qualifying matches - against Iran on August 31 and Uzbekistan on September 5 - ended in scoreless draws.

Macau in an away fixture in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup Qualification third round.

Germany have taken over the no.1 slot, followed by Brazil and European champions Portugal.

Poland couldn't hang on to their all-time best fifth slipped to sixth and France, Chile and Colombia fills the top ten list in the world football.

Iran continued to be the top ranked nation in Asia although it dropped one spot to 25th.

It is Scotland's highest ranking in three years, since reaching the number 36 spot in 2014.

The defeats cost Algeria dearly as they dropped 14 places to 62.
