A BSF soldier was killed as Pakistani troops resorted to heavy shelling and firing on border out posts (BoPs) and civilian areas along the International Border in Jammu district on Friday.

"Heavy firing exchanges are going on as BSF troopers retaliated unprovoked, indiscriminate firing by Pakistan", the police officer said at around 11.15 a.m.

A wreath laying ceremony was organised in honour of the BSF officer, who laid down his life guarding the nation's frontiers in Arnia sector, a defence spokesman said here.

The officials said the Pakistan Rangers violated the ceasefire agreement for the third consecutive day between the intervening night of September 14 and 15 in Arnia sector of the IB, resulting into the death of BSF constable Bijender Bahadur. He is a native of Vidya Bhawan Naraypur village in Balia district of Uttar Pradesh. He is made due by his better half Sushmita Singh.

Earlier on Wednesday, Pakistan had accused Indian soldiers of unprovoked firing.

One civilian was also hit.

Islamabad accused the Indian troops of "deliberately targeting" civilians and termed it "deplorable and contrary to human dignity and global human rights and humanitarian laws".

This is the fifth ceasefire violation by Pakistan in six days, according to PTI. Episodes of truce infringement by Pakistani troops have expanded strongly this year.
