A Louisiana State University student died at a hospital Wednesday night after being rushed from a fraternity house following a possible hazing incident, officials said.

Gruver's body showed no signs of external trauma, but "marked cerebral and pulmonary edema were observed", according to the report. An autopsy on Gruver is scheduled Friday, the East Baton Rouge coroner told Nola.com.

"As we have continuously warned over and over again - hazing is risky, irresponsible, and unacceptable and it will not be tolerated at LSU, period", said university president F King Alexander at a press conference on Thursday.

Additional details were not released by campus police. Additionally, the national Phi Delta Theta General Headquarters has announced that it is suspending all operations of the fraternity's chapter on LSU's campus.

"As we have continually warned over and over again, hazing is risky, irresponsible and unacceptable, and it will not be tolerated at LSU". Coroner William "Beau" Clark said the autopsy procedures were a combination of comprehensive toxicology and histological testing, which can take up to four weeks to complete.

"Our honest condolences are extended to Mr. Gruver's family and friends", Clark said in the statement.

The authorities at Louisiana State University are investigating whether fraternity hazing led to the death of a freshmen student on Thursday, the university said.

All Greek activities have been suspended by the university until further notice pending the results of the investigation.

"The death of Maxwell Gruver was tragic and untimely", F. King Alexander, the university's president, said in the statement. "We are investigating the matter with the utmost seriousness", Alexander said.

We are deeply saddened to inform you that Maxwell Gruver, Class of 2017, passed away today unexpectedly. The fall rush period has ended, and students who received invitations, or bids, to join fraternities are now in a pledging process to become a member.

"We're committed to investigating this situation thoroughly", said Bob Biggs, the chief executive at Phi Delta Theta.
