An impressive half-century from Hashim Amla and a rapid cameo by Thisara Perera guided the ICC World XI to an exciting seven-wicket victory over Pakistan in the second Twenty20 global of the Independence Cup here at the Gaddafi Stadium on Wednesday.

With the foundation set Shoaib Malik and Imad Wasim plundered 48 runs in the last three overs as Pakistan scored what was their fourth-highest T20 total. Ahmed Shehzad struggled to score boundaries whereas Babar Azam made the most of the opportunity and scored 86 runs from 52 deliveries hitting 10 fours and 2 sixes.

World XI got off to a slow start and the required run rate started going up which led to openers Tamim Iqbal and Hashim Amla getting out before making a mark.

Now Faf du Plessis and co will be eyeing to level the series while the Green-shirts would be aiming to wrap up the home series.

For Pakistan, paceman Sohail Khan and leg-spinner Shadab Khan finished with two wickets apiece.

And then needing 13 runs in the final over, the burly-built Perera gave little trouble to his senior partner Amla, as the former completed the job in style. This time they added 59 to steer Pakistan to 100. He was ably assisted by hero of the first match Babar Azam, who once again played a sensible innings, and collected 45 runs off 38 balls with the help of five fours.

Pakistan, however, won the match 33 runs.

The World XI included Paul Collingwood of England who featured in his first T20 global since his retirement from T20 Internationals in 2011 and Badree of the West Indies in place of Darren Sammy and New Zealand's Grant Elliott.

Thisara Perera and Samuel Badree bowled brilliantly for World XI as they bagged two wickets each and restricted Pakistan to post a mammoth total.

Both the teams made two changes to their playing XI.

With 63 needed in the final five overs, Sri Lankan all-rounder Perera struck a whirlwind 19-ball 47 not out to thwart Pakistan's chances. Left-arm tweaker Mohammad Nawaz, and promising young pacer Usman Shinwari, came into the side for Faheem Ashraf and Hasan Ali, respectively.

Malik in particular was in stupendous form, smacking three sixes in a quickfire innings of 39 runs off just 23 deliveries.
