Asaduddin Owaisi asks Narendra Modi not to view Rohingyas as Muslims

UN asks international community to help Rohingya refugees Rohingyas are threat to national security, can't stay as illegal refugees: Govt to Supreme Court

Almost 400,000 Rohingya refugees have fled into Bangladesh since late August during the outbreak of violence in the Rakhine state.

Addressing the rally in front of Baitul Mukarram, leaders of these groups urged Bangladesh Army to make their position over the issue of Rohingya crisis clear. Sources said they reviewed an intelligence report that red-flagged the penetration of Pakistan-based terror outfits, including the Lashkar-e-Taiba, among Rohingyas, contending that they would eventually be used to target India.

The National Human Rights Commission will oppose the government's plan to deport Rohingya Muslims living in India, the body announced in a statement Saturday.

Mr Kunal said that human rights bodies had also condemned Myanmarese government on several occasions for persecution of Rohingya Muslims in the country.

According to the United Nations refugee agency UNHCR, at least 2,70,000 Rohingya refugees have fled from the violence affected Myanmar's Northern Rakhine state and sought refuge in Bangladesh where the limited shelter capacity is already exhausted.

Terming the Rohingyas as a "direct threat to national security", the said affidavit (draft) had claimed that providing facilities and amenities to illegal immigrants out of existing national resources "would have a direct adverse impact on Indian citizens" and that "fundamental rights of Indian citizens would be seriously violated" if the refugees were allowed to stay in India.

Earlier it was reported that the filed affidavit on the expulsion of Rohingyas stated that the decision to deport the Rohingyas is taken in "larger public interest and in the interest of national security".

The state governments have also been directed to set up a special task force which would identify illegal immigrants.

Since the military crackdown began, at least 30,000 Rohingya people have been killed, while almost 400,000 forced out of their homeland and flee to Bangladesh as entire villages were burnt down, according to the UNHCR.

Some groups allied to Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party have stepped up calls for Rohingyas to leave, and Modi said last week that India shared Myanmar's concerns about "extremist violence" in Rakhine state.

The central government on Thursday in their "unfinalised affidavit" had said that Rohingyas pose a security threat to the country. It's wrong. Under which law can the Centre send back Rohingya refugees? He said his party would oppose the Centre's any move to deport almost 40,000 Rohingya Muslims living in various refugee camps. "When it was told that they (Lankan refugees) are taking part in terror, what was done?"
