Iowa State QB Jacob Park on personal leave with 'medical concerns'

With starting quarterback Jacob Park having taken a leave of absence for "personal health issues", Lanning has been rotating in at quarterback behind Kyle Kempt while also continuing to play linebacker.

According to the report, Park did not arrive with the team in Norman this afternoon. He has thrown for 1,181 yards and 9 touchdowns this season through 4 games.

"We are focused on helping Jacob in any way we can". It's easily the competitive high point in the career of coach Matt Campbell, in his second year at Iowa State after spending five years at Toledo. I know how important the football team is to Jacob and how important Jacob is to the football team.

The quarterback position has been unstable for the Cyclones since Austen Arnaud graduated in 2010. Kempt appeared in one game for the Cyclones last season and completed both of his passes. Park still ranks 15th in the NCAA in passing yards (295.2 yards per game) and has thrown nine touchdown passes, thanks in great part to senior All-American wide receiver Allen Lazard who has 24 receptions for 241 yards and three TDs despite constant double-teaming.

Folks in Ames were excited to see the progression of the Cyclones program the day Campbell was handed the keys to the vehicle, and after toppling the Sooners on Saturday, there's even more of a reason to be excited about what's happening with Iowa State.

Iowa State: LB Joel Lanning.
