Jones told reporters on Sunday he would bench players who do not stand and show respect during the national anthem.

Jones also broached the business side of the argument with his team, explaining the importance of keeping the Cowboys' sponsors satisfied and TV ratings trending upward, according to ESPN.

No Cowboys player has kneeled during the anthem, although the team met Wednesday to discuss Jones' comments. Another said the players had a better feeling for Jones' comments, because at first he wondered if Jones had turned against them, according to the source.

And from the sound of ESPN's Josina Anderson'stweets, which were sent out before King's, the Cowboys locker room might be in a state of disarray over Jones' rules now in comparison to when he knelt with them just a couple of weeks ago.

Local 100 of the United Labor Unions filed a complaint against Jones on Tuesday, alleging the Cowboys owner and general manager violated the National Labor Relations Act with his decree. He added that players were free to express themselves before the anthem.

The national anthem protests appear to be coming to a head, with the NFL telling teams they have a proposal to move past the protests and begin focusing on highlighting players' work on social issues.

Before the anthem of that game, players stood arm in arm with Jones, other front office executives, coaches and staff and took a knee.

"The game ops manual has an ambiguity being used for those who don't want to enforce it- the word "should" stand for anthem is their ambiguity- but how can it be ambiguous when it cites the potential penalties of fines, suspension or loss of draft picks for failing to adhere?" That decision came after Donald Trump had called players who protested "sons of bitches". "So I think the likelihood on the basis of that charge alone, that this gets much steam, is probably unlikely". "We're *allowed* to support that", Scandrick said. "The message, it will be out".
