"Match abandoned. A sodden outfield the culprit, with the series finishing as a 1-1 tie". The frustration was palpable around the stadium as the spectators threw bottles on to the ground the moment the giant screens flashed "Match called off" around 8.23 pm.

The third and final Twenty20 global between India and Australia has been abandoned without a ball being bowled due to wet outfield. The pitch inspection has been further delayed from 7:00 Pm to 7:45 Pm IST.

India skipper Virat Kohli and Australia s stand-in captain David Warner shared the honours with the series ending drawn 1-1.

With no reserve day in place, India and Australia will share the trophy.

Earlier, the match referee Richie Richardson was seen having inspection in the company of the two umpires - the outfield especially the wet patches near the boundary.

India won the rain-hit T20 opener by nine wickets in Ranchi before the visitors made a remarkable comeback with their eight-wicket win in what turned out to be the final game. Though it did not rain in this part of the city since Friday morning, Hyderabad has been consistently pounded by rain in the last couple of weeks.

Curator YL Chandrasekhar said the recent rain has not affected the wicket.

The much-anticipated final T20 match between hosts India and Australia ended in a damp squib. According to sources, pedestal fans had been used on the eve of the match to dry the outfield.

The wet outfield condition of the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium forced officials to call off the match.

The action has shifted to the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad today for the series-deciding clash.
