The Green Bay Packers have cut Martellus Bennett with the failure to disclose a medical condition designation, bringing the tight end's short tenure at Lambeau Field to a surprising end.

Bennett had been battling a shoulder injury.

The Packers were Bennett's fifth team in a 10-year career, as he played four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, one season with the New York Giants, three seasons with the Bears and one season with the New England Patriots, winning the Super Bowl last year.

The Packers have two other tight ends on the roster in Lance Kendricks and Richard Rodgers.

Bennett, who has a reputation for being outspoken, recently came out on Instagram stating that 2017 would probably be his last season in the NFL.

Bennett was inactive during the Packers' Monday night loss to Detroit.

Asked about his sudden desire to leave the game, Bennett was even more vague. He made 12 starts and caught 55 passes for 701 yards while setting a career high with seven touchdown receptions. That day, Bennett left the locker room telling reporters he wouldn't be talking with them because there was "nothing to talk about".

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport is reporting that the Packers could argue that, given the undisclosed pre-existing injury, Bennett's entire contract is void, which could allow the team to get back some or all of the $8 million they've already paid Bennett.

The tight end is now subject to waivers, and teams have until 3 p.m. Thursday to submit a claim on him.

He is the brother of Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett. "If Marty's not, the other guys are ready to go".
