Mrs Trump gives a gift to Chinese children.

But America's first lady did finally bow to practicality - walking the Great Wall of China in pointy heels would've been no joke, so she donned a pair of sensible flats for the trip, during the Trumps' 12-day state visit to Asia.

With President Trump and the First Lady now overseas in Asia to discuss foreign relations, the 47-year-old former model stepped out in Beijing to meet with President Xi Jinpeng and his wife, Madame Peng Liyuana, in a custom Dolce & Gabbana gown with an estimated price tag of $3,975.

"This visit to China is something I will never forget", said First Lady Melania Trump.

She passed out stuffed toy eagles from the U.S.to the children and posed for pictures with them.

She also stopped to sign a poster with her name and the message, "Thank you to the Beijing Zoo!" Several other first ladies have visited the giant pandas in Bejing, engaging in what is fondly dubbed "panda diplomacy", including Nancy Reagan and Michelle Obama.

On Friday, Melania had an opportunity to feed Gu Gu, the facility's celebrity panda, and learn about his nutrition and training. "Wonderful to meet Gu Gu!"

So what, then, does one wear to tour the Great Wall of China?

The Trumps visited Japan and South Korea before landing in China.

She rode a cable vehicle to a watchtower, signed a guest book and strolled along a stretch of the wall for about half an hour with aides and security officers.
