One of the users wrote,"I have the new Pixel 2 (not XL) and the mic stopped working for me". As mentioned above, the latest issue concerns the Google Pixel 2 XL flashing screen that flooded Google's support forums.

The big problem appears to be the screen, which has been subject to reports of screen burn, usually a sign of a cheap display, a black smear on the screen, usually the sign of a cheap display and a bunch of other issues that are... usually the sign of a cheap display.

"Yes. Blowing into the speaker like you would an old NES cartridge".

A number of users have reported that blowing into the bottom speaker or USB port seems to solve the microphone issue. Some users are reporting that the Pixel 2 series has a microphone problem, while some others are seeing screen flashes on the Pixel 2 XL.

But if you're microphone is working perfectly, users are advised against to use this old-school technique as it may cause the microphone to fail.

"[.] every time that Google Assistant is summoned up and any bluetooth headset is connected, then Assistant will NOT detect audio neither from bluetooth headset nor from phone, said one user in the forum". In our opinion, this could very well be a hardware problem rather than software. So far, Google has not acknowledged the issue. Apparently, there is a fix that might bring the microphone back to work. A consumer rights firm begun looking into several Pixel 2-related complaints already including units shipping without Android, installation issues, empty tray for a wired Pixel Buds, unimpressive audio quality in video recording, and the clicking sound during calls. The software update specifically addressed various screen issues such as a more saturated colour option and a protection against screen burn-in.
