Ezekiel Elliott withdrawing appeal of six-game suspension, according to report

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott had dropped all remaining appeals and will serve his six-game suspension his attorneys announced Wednesday afternoon. The running back will be eligible to return for the Cowboys game against the Seattle Seahawk Ezekiel Elliott withdraws appeal

The six-game suspension stems from a domestic violence allegation by Elliott's former girlfriend in July of 2016.

Their first attempt to show that life without Elliott would work failed - a 27-7 loss to the Atlanta Falcons last week.

In a statement, Elliott's agents, Rocky Arceneaux and Frank Salzano, said: "In consultation with the NFLPA and his lawyers, and after careful deliberation and review of the recent Second Circuit decisions, Mr. Elliott has chose to forgo any further appeals and will serve the remaining suspension". His first game back will be December 24 vs the Seahawks. The writing was on the wall when Elliott's emergency injunction request by the NFLPA on his behalf was denied by the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals last week.

Elliott has already served one game of the suspension.

The union immediately appealed Goodell's suspension decision and Elliott has been able to play while the case works its way through the legal system and led to hard feelings between Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Goodell. It was about Roger Goodell's power as commissioner to impose discipline.

Since the National Football League announced the suspension on August 11, the Cowboys have known that at some point - either at the start of the season, middle of the season, end of the season or even next season - their lead running back would miss time. However, that suspension was extended indefinitely after another video was released depicting Rice striking his fiancée in the elevator.

Jones has questioned the suspension of Elliott, who has maintained his innocence.

'Even this judge said it shows that very reasonably people could possibly come down on both sides of this, ' Jones continued.

Elliott filed another appeal to have his suspension reduced to possibly just four games, but he has instead elected to withdraw that and will serve the entire ban, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

The Cowboys (5-4) have turned to Alfred Morris, Rod Smith and Darren McFadden in Elliott's absence. 'I'm a white girl.

Elliott led the National Football League in rushing last season as a rookie with 1,631 yards and has 783 in eight games this season, which this week ranks third in the NFL.

The Cowboys play on Sunday Night Football against the Philadelphia Eagles.
