Earl Kimrey of Jacksonville was arrested late Friday and was being held at the Onslow County Detention Center on a $1 million bond in the disappearance of 3-year-old Mariah Woods, deputies said.

Investigators have charged him with concealing death, obstruction of justice and other charges. The search is now a recovery effort.

Mariah was last seen Sunday night when her mother, Kristy Woods, put the girl to bed, according to the sheriff's officeh.

She claimed he saw her at 1am and told her to go back to bed.

Mariah's family has been cooperating with investigators and additional charges could be filed in the case, authorities said. ABC News reports that her mother reached out to the public in an emotion-filled plea Monday. Authorities are searching for her body.

More than 700 volunteers turned out Friday as the search for the missing girl shifted to the area around a creek a few miles from her home, CNN affiliate WNCN reported.

The search was organized in connection with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

She says Kimery, saw the child later that night. Authorities searching for the missing toddler are asking residents to comb through their properties for anything "out of the ordinary" in the hope that someone will come forward with information that leads them to the little girl.

As the search for Mariah intensified, questions swirled about the story told by Mariah's caretakers. The search for Mariah entered a fifth day Friday. Meador said they also sifted through roughly 95,000 pounds of trash by hand for evidence, and some "items of interest" were sent to the Marine Corps Base at Quantico for testing.

Onslow County Sheriff Hans Miller said at a news conference that deputies are just as determined to bring the girl home as they were when it was still possible she was alive.

A statement from the Federal Bureau of Investigation said Friday's initial search finished more quickly than anticipated because of the number of people who turned out.

"The focus of this investigation has changed from a missing child to homicide case", Meador added.

Kimrey allegedly "failed to notify a law enforcement authority of the death of Mariah Woods, and secretly disposed of the dead child's body", according to the warrant.
