Ole Miss' Shea Patterson granted permission to talk with programs

Ole Miss Basketball: Rebels Drop Overtime Game 99-97 To Jackrabbits 2-year bowl ban among infractions handed to Ole Miss for NCAA infractions
Theodore Harris | 03 December, 2017, 00:50

The Rebels were hit with an extra-year bowl ban (2017 and 2018) on Friday, the additional penalty to what Ole Miss had already self-imposed prior to the NCAA decision.

Three years of probation, until November 30, 2020.

In other words, the NCAA accepted all of the university's self-imposed penalties with the exception of the one-year postseason ban.

As for the scholarships and other fines, many believe the impact there will impact recruiting, and the quality of players that Ole Miss will be able to attract. "The additional postseason ban is excessive and does not take into account the corrective actions that we have made in personnel, structure, policies and processes to address the issues", the school said in a statement. You can read the full letter here. Many fans say these sanctions could have short and long-term impacts on the Ole Miss football program.

"The violations resulted from a culture of rules violations being acceptable in the MS football program", the NCAA ruling explained.

A 5-year show-cause order for the assistant coach who facilitated standardized test fraud and living arrangements.

"The panel found the involved head coach failed to monitor the program, allowing his staff to knowingly commit a series of recruiting violations, submit false information on recruiting paperwork and not report known violations".

The Ole Miss Spirit reported that Patterson, the No. 1-ranked quarterback in the 2016, recruiting class has completed what is called a "permission to contact" form which opens the door for schools to contact Patterson or Patterson to contact them.

Almost every coach named in the Notice of Allegations received a show-cause as well. The school met with the NCAA Committe on Infractions in September, and the school is set to release the official findings at some point this morning.

Vacation of all regular-season and postseason wins in which ineligible student-athletes competed. It's unknown which games this includes.
