Ford Denies Allegations, Threatens Legal Action

Harold Ford Jr. in Memphis at an NAACP event earlier this year- JB Ford Fired By Morgan Stanley In Harassment Investigation
Dexter Carr | 08 December, 2017, 01:29

A spokeswoman for Morgan Stanley confirmed to the Daily News that Ford was sacked for "conduct inconsistent with our values and in violation of our policies". The investment bank launched a human resources investigation after the woman accused Ford Jr. of harassment and the results led to his dismissal.

Now, Ford has vociferously denied these allegations and has threatened legal action against The Huffington Post and Morgan Stanley for wrongful termination.

That woman alleged Ford harassed, intimidated, and forcibly grabbed her - and she had to seek help from a security guard.

At the time Morgan Stanley announced the hire, The New York Times described Ford's role as a rainmaker of sorts: "Mr. Ford will be responsible for "building business opportunities" for clients, Morgan Stanley said. I have never forcibly grabbed any woman or man in my life".

"HuffPost is not identifying the woman at her request but has reviewed emails that confirm her interactions with Ford and spoke to two people whom the woman confided in about the incident", the report stated.

Ford strongly denied the allegations in a statement, writing: "I support and have tremendous respect for the courageous women now speaking out in this important national dialogue". I will now be bringing legal action against [the woman] who has made these false claims about me as well as Morgan Stanley for improper termination, ' he said. He added that socializing with members of the press was part of his job, he said that "false claims like this undermine the real silence breakers".

She says he continued to ask her out for drinks and only stopped when she asked him to.

He also works as a panelist on MSNBC's Morning Joe.

Ford's attorney John Singer said the firing "was a matter of convenience during a hyper-sensitive time and not based on real facts".

Ford, a frequent guest on news and finance TV shows, served five terms in the U.S. House of Representatives for Tennessee's 9th district before joining Morgan Stanley in 2011. MSNBC had no immediate comment on the situation.
